Jim Blount is a senior laboratory programmer and planner specializing in research facilities for academic institutions and life sciences companies.

Jim has dedicated his career to architecture for the sciences. A particular area of his interest and expertise is the exploration and development of innovative sustainable design solutions for research and engineering laboratories. Jim is a member of our Research Practice and Sustainability committees. He is a past president of the New England Chapter of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) and a past board member of National I2SL. Jim regularly participates as a juror in the R&D Lab of the Year competition and is a frequent speaker at many national forums addressing laboratory and sustainable design topics.

Jim’s current and recent clients include Boston College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Rice University, Stony Brook University, New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Yale University, Rowan University, and IQHQ. He has also completed projects for University of Kentucky, Northeast Ohio Medical University, University of Minnesota, University of New Hampshire, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Takeda (Shire), and EMD Serono.
